With regards to clearing, there are a number of exemptions which can be found in the definition of “exempted development” under schedule 24 of the Planning Regulation 2017. This includes (but is not limited to) an exemption for:

• Clearing an area to establish or maintain a firebreak around infrastructure to a maximum width of 20m or 1.5 times the height of the tallest adjacent tree, whichever is greater;
• Clearing an area to establish or maintain a fire management line to a maximum width of 10m;
• Clearing area to reduce hazardous fuel load under the Fire and Emergency Services Act;
• Clearing an area necessary to remove or reduce the imminent risk the vegetation poses to people or infrastructure;
• Clearing in a koala habitat area necessary to maintain existing infrastructure;
• Clearing an area where the clearing is necessary to establish a necessary fence, road or vehicular track to a maximum width of 5m for a lot that is 5ha or less.

It is a rural locality in the northern portion of Gold Coast. Located 20 kilometres west of Southport and 66 kilometres south-southeast of Brisbane.
